The CSKI annual Year 8 camps had been severely affected by inclement weather in late February. Administration staff, the Outdoor Adventure Specialists, bus companies, parents and teachers scrambled to rearrange affairs so that the second round of groups would be able to have a camp experience as scheduled. A number of CSKI students are waiting their turn and have their fingers and toes crossed for it to go ahead in week 6.
The Hillary camp did depart school and head over the hills to Orton Bradely Park, though it quickly became evident that the sea was in an unsafe state. From beachside to 200 metres off the coastline, the water was a sludgey Milo colour before transitioning back to the more familiar turquoise. This meant that our students were the first to experience a solely land-based activities camp.
Engaging with outdoor pursuits like bush-walking, high ropes, abseiling, adventure based learning and Tyrolean traverses, made for an epic time. The smiles were broad and the fatigue that followed made for a generally peaceful sleep in our tents.
The students also really enjoyed the menu which was cooked up by CSKI staff and the night time activities, like spotlight and the lip-synch contests which followed. The playground was an immensely popular place to hang out and the flying fox got put to very thorough use by adults and young people alike.
