This year, Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate participated in Sau Ia Fest 2026, performing at the Christchurch Town Hall alongside schools from around the Canterbury region. It was a special evening celebrating Pasifika songs, dance and the different cultures from across the Pacific.
Our students had been practising with our tutors from Tangata Mai and teachers in preparation for this performance, working hard to learn and perfect their songs and dances. Performing on the Town Hall stage was a fantastic opportunity for our students, especially with the support of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, who accompanied the performances throughout the evening.
We would like to thank all of our students for their commitment and dedication in preparing for this performance. They represented Christchurch South with pride and outstandingly demonstrated the South Way.
“On the 6th of August, we had the 2026 Sau Ia Festival: The Calling Of Nations. I really enjoyed being part of this awesome performance, and experiencing the amazing culture and music. It was a great opportunity to connect with other students and celebrate the pacifika culture together. I especially enjoyed how the audience got to participate and how I got to see everyone show pride in their culture. Overall, Sau Ia Fest was a fun and memorable experience that I will remember as a student from CSKI.”
