On Tuesday, 18th August, our school’s basketball talent was on full display at the Paraikore tournament in Christchurch. Representing our school with immense grit, teamwork, and skill, both the South Lakers (Girls Grade) and the South Eagles (Boys Grade) delivered outstanding performances across an action-packed day of 8 games each.
South Lakers Take 1st Place! The South Lakers had a thrilling run to the top of the podium. After dropping a single pool game early in the morning, the girls regrouped, adjusted their strategy, and never looked back. Entering the knockout rounds from 2nd place in pool play, they went on a dominant tear, sweeping their quarter-final, semi-final, and final matches by wide margins to secure 1st place overall in the competition!
South Eagles Soar to 3rd! The South Eagles came out on fire, winning all of their pool games in dominant fashion to top their table. They carried that momentum through a convincing quarter-final victory. A tough, hard-fought battle against Cobham in the semi-finals saw them narrowly fall short, but the boys showed incredible resilience to bounce back, win their final playoff game, and claim a well-deserved 3rd place finish!
A massive congratulations to all the players, coaches, and supporters who made the day such a huge success. Both teams represented our school with pride, determination, and exceptional sportsmanship!
