In week 3, we hosted our second Māori whānau hui for 2025. The theme was ‘Whakanui ki ngā Akoranga Māori’ celebrating Māori learners. Our whānau hui continue to be a casual and enjoyable way to get to know each each other and celebrate our ākonga māori. Along with shared kai, we began constructing our connections map to see where our whānau are from. On display throughout the evening was a photo powerpoint showing some of the successes of our ākonga māori. A highlight for this hui was the introductions of our 2025 Manarau Māori students who stood and presented their pepeha to all present. Thank you to Miss Holland for your work supporting this group of young people. For many, this was their first time speaking māori in front of a large audience and they upheld our school value of supporting by standing together and helping if someone got stuck. Well done to you all, kia kaha, kia maia tātou!
Discussions were also had with whānau around how our kura might celebrate Mātariki this year, with lots of engaging and entertaining ideas put forward. Thank you to all who were able to attend and contribute to the evening, we value your input in making our kura a space for akonga māori to thrive and grow.
