Our performing arts students are truly making some beautiful noise around here! There’s so much happening, from harmonious choirs to rhythmic drum circles, and we’re excited to share some highlights.
On Stage and In Rehearsal
Our Choir is sounding incredible as they prepare for the upcoming Kahukura Festival. We recently had a fantastic combined rehearsal with other schools, and the singing was simply amazing! Look out for ticket information coming soon for their Term 3 performance at Cashmere High School.
The Jazz Band, under the brilliant guidance of Matua Clay from Cashmere High School, is truly sounding amazing! Their musicianship is exceptional, and we’re eagerly anticipating their debut performance.
Mr. Bartley’s Orchestra meets every Thursday morning and is a highly talented group of musicians. They’re diligently working on some very challenging pieces, and their dedication is truly inspiring.
Our newly formed Drum Circle brings a wonderful energy to Wednesday lunchtimes. They enjoy creating music together, freestyling with such finesse and commitment!
Mana Rae is also busy working with a small group of Marimba musicians, getting ready for the Strum Strike Blow event. Our sister Ukulele group is still finding their rhythm with rehearsals, but they’re making progress!
Getting Ready to Move and Groove
Jump Jam auditions are well underway, and we’ll soon be busting out some awesome moves as we work towards the Jump Jam competition later in the year. Get ready to cheer them on!
This year, we’re proud to have four rock bands at school, all building up to Band Quest later in the year. One of our fantastic bands, The Tinkerbells, recently helped lead the assembly singing with a brilliant rendition of ‘Learning to Fly’ by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Speaking of assembly singing, we’re now awarding house points for participation, and we’ve already seen a marked improvement in the tamariki’s sound – their enthusiasm is infectious!
In the Classroom
In our performing arts classes, students are ticking along wonderfully. We’re currently focusing on composition, exploring themes linked to citizenship – it’s fascinating to hear the creative ways they’re expressing themselves through music!
