The Term 4 Mixx Korfball Tournament, the largest event of the year, unfolded on Monday, 4th December, marking a day of intense competition and sportsmanship. Originally slated for the outdoor setting of the Christchurch Netball Courts, the tournament swiftly adapted to the unpredictable weather conditions, relocating indoors to the Christchurch Netball Centre at Ngā Puna Wai.
Our school proudly fielded three teams for the occasion. CSKI A, a three-time champion boasting an unbeaten record this year, and CSKI B battled it out in Division 1, while CSKI C showcased their skills in Division 2.
CSKI A dominated the pool play, securing victories in all three matches, but faced a close defeat in the quarterfinals against Cobham, the eventual tournament champions. Undeterred, they rallied in the group competing for 5th-8th position, triumphing in their remaining matches and securing a commendable 5th place overall. CSKI B mirrored this success by winning all of their pool play matches and clinching a spot in the group contesting for 1st to 4th. Despite a semifinal setback against St Martins, CSKI B showcased their resilience, securing a thrilling 3rd place finish after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory against Heaton.
In Division 2, under the expert guidance of Anna and Jeff, CSKI C delivered a stellar performance, notching up 2 wins, a draw, and a lone loss during pool play, securing a 2nd place standing in their group. The quarterfinal against Queenspark was a hard-fought 2-0 win, leading them to a challenging semifinal clash against the undefeated Hillmorton team. Overcoming a slow start, they cranked up the intensity and emerged victorious with a 4-2 score, earning them a spot in the finals against Cobham, the team that had bested them in pool play. The finals unfolded as a nail-biting, back-and-forth encounter, ultimately concluding with CSKI C securing a well-deserved 2nd place with a final score of 1-2. Ka pai te mahi!
Special congratulations to Grace Bradley (S4), who earned a well-deserved spot in the tournament team, showcasing exceptional skills and dedication.
Heartfelt gratitude goes out to all the parents who provided crucial support through transport and those who joined us at the Christchurch Netball Centre to cheer on the teams. Your unwavering support played a pivotal role in our success, and we couldn’t have achieved this without you.
