Remember that one time you joked about something and then it actually happened? That’s exactly how the awesome events of October 16th unfolded when the iconic children’s TV show, What Now, rolled into R4!
How We Got Here: The Great Gunge Goal!
It all started with a couple of R4 student masterminds approaching Mr. Barr with a cheeky request: “Can we gunge you on What Now?” Mr. Barr, clearly not knowing what he was getting into, casually joked, “Sure, that’d be fun!” Before he could change his mind, the whole class got on board during a class hui (meeting).
Mr. Barr, seeing an opportunity for some serious learning and serious fun, made a deal: “You can’t do this for free! Let’s make it a class goal/reward.” After an epic effort and a whole lot of hard work, R4 crushed their goal and officially earned their prize: a visit from the What Now crew!
Game On, Get Pied, Get Gunged!
When What Now arrived, the cameras were rolling for some high-stakes, messy fun.
Game 1: Emoji Mania (Pie-ing Time! 🥧) Students paired up to guess movies, sports, and more based only on emojis. (Example: 💚🩷 = Wicked). The loser of the round got a face full of pie!
Game 2: Category Chaos (Gunge Alert! 🟢) In this rapid-fire challenge, pairs had to name as many things as they could within a given category (like video games—hello, Fortnite!). Repeat an answer or fumble, and BAM—you earned a trip to the Gunge Dome!
The Ultimate Fail: Mr. Barr Gets Splattered!
The grand finale was a whole-class game with Mr. Barr in the hot seat: “Guess the Student by Voice.” Mr. Barr’s mission was to identify his class just by hearing them speak. He put up a valiant effort, getting 23 out of 29 correct.
But, as Mr. Barr learned the hard way, in the Gunge Game of Life, 100% or nothing is the rule! For not knowing his students perfectly, Mr. Barr was officially gunged and targeted!
