On Monday 3rd of November Sheppard 8’s went to Quake City on a school trip. Over the past 4 weeks we have been learning about the Christchurch Earthquakes, particularly the February 22nd 2011 earthquake. We watched a documentary about the earthquake and we listened to the people who were affected by the traumatic experience.

Quake City gave us a new perspective and made the experience more interesting and felt like we were there when the earthquake happened. The stories that the parents shared with us were heartbreaking but bitter sweet. Some were stories about how they helped their communities, some were about where they were at 4:35 instead of just sleeping, and where they were at 12:51 instead of eating lunch and at work.

This experience made us wonder what we would do in that instance. There were many different activities to try including the liquefaction station, the biking to create power, and the measuring magnitude station.
