On Tuesday, 3 December, Sheppard Year 8s had an overnighter at Cracroft Guiding Centre to make up for the second night missed at Orton Bradley Park earlier in the year due to the fire on the Port Hills.
We arrived at 5pm, set up our tents quickly, and helped others until everyone was sorted. It was much easier than at our February camp. After some free time, we had fish n chips and pizza for tea, with Miss Holland and Miss Kumar joining us, which made it even more fun.
Our evening kicked off with a huge water fight where everyone got soaked. When we dried off, we organised ourselves into sports and activities, with Ben joining in on the fun. Some people relaxed in the barn, playing board games, cards, or reading.
Later, when it got dark, we played Smugglers’ Run. Mr Fleming and Mr Williams hid with ‘the elixir’, but Mr Fleming’s hiding spot made the game extra tricky! Afterward, we played spotlight, running through the trees and tripping over tents. Mr Williams even found a swing to spot us from!
The next morning, early risers played quiet games in the barn while others slept in. Breakfast was toast and cereal, and then we packed down the tents. We spent the morning playing games and activities, and some of us went to the river with Mr Williams.
Morning tea was followed by a game of Go Home, Stay Home, which lasted until lunch. For lunch, we enjoyed a sausage sizzle and leftover pizza. The day ended with another big water fight before cleaning up the camp.
Overall, it was a fantastic camp that showed how much we’ve grown as Year 8s. Mr Fleming and Mr Williams trusted us to organise games and activities without leaving anyone out. A huge thank you to the parents, Jody and Chris, who stayed overnight, cooked, and cleaned up. Thank you also to Ben, Miss Holland, and Miss Kumar for joining us and making the experience even better. Lastly, thank you to Mr Williams and Mr Fleming for organising such a memorable overnighter!
