Talofa lava, mālō e lelei, bula vinaka, kia orana, mauri, halo olaketa,

On the 15th of August, CSKI hosted our first Pacific families fono hui in a number of years. It was wonderful to welcome students and their fono to share a delicious meal with us and discuss the experience of our Pacific students at school. We had the pleasure to hear from our Principal, Ross Hastings, about his time living in the Solomon Islands and a recent return to see the island way of life, we got to share some highlights from our Pasifika performance group and also receive valuable feedback for what our kura could be doing to promote Pacific language and culture more at our school.

We appreciate everyone who joined us on the evening, and brought a plate to share. We had an abundance of tasty desserts after a catered meal of sapasui, taro and pani popo. We want to extend our thanks and recommend you check out Lenry’s Souvlaki & Island Food in the Selwyn shops. They worked alongside us to prepare a delicious and traditional island meal.

If you have any thoughts about Pacific student development at Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate, please feel free to email Chelsea Birtch: c.birtch@chchsouth.ac.nz to share your ideas.

Mālō ‘aupito!
(Tongan for thank you)
