On Wednesday the 26th of February a small group of year 8 students were chosen to go to Somerfield Te Kura O Wairepo as mentors to support the year 6’s at their leadership day. Along with some other mentors from Cashmere High School, we had to help them understand the prospects of leadership and how to achieve their leadership goals at Somerfield and in the future. We each sat at a table with around 7 of the students, the teachers gave them questions, and they had to discuss as a group or answer independently. We supported the conversations and gave plenty of feedback. They learnt that leadership is not just about one person taking charge, it’s about talking and collaborating as a team because it takes teamwork to achieve great things. We were so privileged to be able to help those students and to show them what it is like to take on leadership roles. We were very privileged to be able to have this opportunity.
