25 students worked on different Pasifika artworks over a five week course. In Week 1, students had the chance to research different art styles and artists from Samoa and Tonga and compare the art motifs. They then got to select designs to replicate in their own sketches. In Week 2, students were tasked to create a tapa cloth inspired design, using rulers and vivids to make the designs sharp and symmetrical. A highlight of Pasifika Art was in Week 3 where students worked within pod groups to make a collaborative ili (fan) to take back and gift to their pod. Each group of students shared the work fairly and created a beautiful ili to display in their pod shared space. Students finished up the rotation by creating beach scenes which reflected life on the islands.
It was an excellent opportunity to meet new peers and Miss Birtch enjoyed connecting with Year 7 and 8 students from across the school.
