This year’s ultimate frisbee team enjoyed the challenge of defending their title from last year. With Max Maier as their only returning player, there was excitement around how the new team would perform. The windy conditions proved formidable but the squad found their groove with Indi Curtin quickly establishing her hunting grounds in the back left corner of the end zone perfectly spaced from another deep field threat, Joel Williamson. After two days, the team was undefeated and heading into the quarter finals.
On day 3, we had a surprise visit from some year 9 alumni who came by to offer some support and coaching tips. Handler Ollie O’Leary began to incorporate his hammer throw and connected with Gen Maze, Tomo McEwan-Smith and Finn Fitzpatrick. Momentum was building with Hugo Laundry orchestrating a beautiful tic-tac-toe pass series resulting in a touch down. We soared past the quarters and semis and into the finals against Lincoln Primary. Stellar play from the team allowed for the handler role to be shared as the margin widened. Staunch defence from Scarlett Brandt frustrated the opposition and South finished with a championship win and the gold medal. Congratulations South, you are the ultimate!
