Three days of competition at the Koru Games – a South Island tournament for Year 7 & 8 students – saw our Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate girls’ team remain unbeaten to win the gold medal in the final. The boys also had a fantastic tournament losing a close semi final by one try to then go on and win the 3rd/4th playoff convincingly. Both teams played with skill, speed and teamwork. A number of the players had not played Rippa Rugby before but picked the game up very quickly showing increasing tactical awareness and game sense as the tournament progressed.
A huge thanks to Isaac and Nick for giving up their time to coach and support the players. I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a reasonable amount of time watching and supporting these teams and have to say I found myself getting quite excited by their enthusiasm, skill, passion and sportsmanship. They were an absolute credit to themselves, their families, whānau and school.
