The Health and Environment Team continued to be busy with promoting safer travel to and from school. Many groups had the chance to see their projects come to fruition.
Mia, Solita and Addison: This term in Health & Environment our group Addi, Mia and Solita, have been working on making posters to spread awareness about biking and scootering to school. This is to prevent going to school in cars and the amount of CO2 going into the air. This so the students that attend CSKI can be encouraged to bike, scooter, walk to school more.
Their group also hosted a “giveaway” morning with generous donations from Ella and the Christchurch City Council which saw 50 students get hi-vis vests to wear over their bags as they walk, scoot or bike to school in the darker winter months. Students who already had hi-vis vests or reflective bag covers had the chance to get a drink bottle holder for their bike. It was great to see so many South students grateful for the safety gear and continue to use them on their way to kura.
Spencer, Alex and Luca: In term two the Health and Environment team have been working on various road safety projects, we have been working with Ella from the City Council who has been helping us achieve our goals. Our group has worked on a variety of posters promoting using the school crossings and how to be a safe road user when traveling to and from school. Some groups have even worked on videos that have and will be presented in assembly and in classes. We have loved this project, and working with Ella from the City Council has been a massive help to making Christchurch South the best it can be!
