The Health and Environment Team has had a focus on safe travel to and from school. This particularly ties in with the new roadworks construction on Milton/Selwyn Street and recent push within our school to remind all students to use the pedestrian crossings before and after school.

We encourage you to review safe travel habits with your child. This could include:

  • Wearing a helmet when biking or scootering
  • Wearing a hi-vis or reflective vest or backpack cover
  • Using the Road Patrol crossings
  • Walking down to a pedestrian crossing rather than running across the road in between traffic

We also have a new school sign to remind everyone that safety comes first when picking up and dropping off at kura.

Our leadership team has been working alongside Ella from the Christchurch City Council on a variety of small group projects. These range from informative posters, promotional videos, new initiatives to promote safe crossing and surveying our ākonga to find out their perspectives on the safety conditions when travelling to school.

Stay tuned for more updates in the newsletters to see the other projects the Health and Environment Team have been working on.
