On Thursday, the 10th of April, the CSKI head students set off to the Celebration Event Centre in Wainoni for the GRIP leadership conference. Student leaders from various schools gathered in the giant auditorium, ready for an interesting day.
There was a booklet on our seat which laid out all the specific activities for the day. Our first activity was looking at the responsibilities of being a student leader. We learnt about being a good role model and being an example to others. We also learnt that you can be a voice for others in our school. Like sticking up for someone or supporting someone in need. The importance of communication was a focus of the day. Sharing ideas and listening to what others have to contribute, and understanding other points of view. This is something that all of the Head Students are keen to show to the rest of the students at CSKI.
During the final session, we got to ask some questions of some of the leaders who taught us over the day. One question we liked was “What motivates you as a leader?” They answered by saying that they strive to try and make any space better, whether it be a classroom or a workplace.
Overall, all of the CSKI Head students had great discussions and experiences. We got to learn about all the different types of leaders you can be, whether it’s inside or outside of the classroom. But we also got to learn about leadership from different people with different perspectives and opinions. It was a great day to be a part of.
