The spirit of competition and camaraderie soared high at the Term 1 Mixx Korfball Tournament held on Monday, 8th April, as Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate (CSKI) showcased their unmatched talent and team spirit. Fresh off a triumphant previous year, expectations were sky-high for our teams, and they did not disappoint.

Our A and B teams, known for their prowess and determination, dominated the pool play with an unbreakable resolve, winning all their matches and progressing to the knockout stages with confidence. The quarter-finals were a testament to our teams’ skills, both securing wins and setting the stage for an all-CSKI semi-final showdown. In a nail-biting match, the A team narrowly edged out the B team with a 1-0 victory, advancing to the finals with hearts full of hope and determination.

The final against Russley School was a spectacle of skill and sportsmanship, with CSKI supporters creating an electrifying atmosphere. Despite a heart-stopping moment when Russley scored within the first 5 seconds, our A team, buoyed by unwavering support, displayed remarkable resilience. Their hard defense and swift attacks turned the tide, leading to a triumphant 7-1 victory, heralding CSKI A as the champions of the division 1 Term 1 Mixx Korfball tournament.

CSKI C team mirrored the A and B teams’ success in pool play, winning three matches and drawing one. Although their teamwork and confidence increased throughout the tournament, the team was knocked out in a tough quarter-final match against St Martins. Our D team, while not advancing past pool play, showed significant improvement and team cohesion, making every game a learning opportunity.

This tournament was not just a display of exceptional athletic ability but also a reflection of the strength of our community. The success of our teams is a direct result of the incredible support from parents, who provided transport, encouragement, and cheers that fuelled our players’ spirits. Your contributions are invaluable, and we extend our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support.

Ka pai tō mahi – well done to everyone involved! Here’s to carrying this momentum forward and achieving even greater heights in the next tournaments. Go CSKI!
