Challenged by rain, threatened by fire, the Christchurch Secondary Schools XC Series was open to hosting Upper Primary School entrants in 2024. CSKI students of the past and present continued an incredible legacy of cycling success from this competition during Term 1.

The XC Series was held out at Halswell Quarry on the Crocodile network of tracks. These tracks have been dug out by a group of dedicated volunteers over the years and feature a range of technical obstacles and a plethora of riding lines to expand a mountain biker’s technical skills. It is truly an asset to the local scene, for it has hosted NZ nationals, and deserving of the praise heaped on it nationwide.

Our riders demonstrated the tenacity and skills to conquer the series and climb onto the podium as deserving medallists. The series kept track of their results through a grading time trial process in race 1 and taking into account placings over the following 5 weeks. Thomas claimed silver in the Boys Under 13 series. Alex claimed silver, and Addi bronze, in the Girls Under 13 series. It is exciting to think about what success may come in future cycling events later this year from our stunning students!

Gratitude must also be expressed to the whānau member who supported their children so extremely well by keeping on top of information about rotations for race schedules, cancellations due to weather or natural disaster, and ensuring they got to races prepared and in time.
