The CAIMS Netball Tournament was held over 2 days during Week 5 of Term 3, with modified A and B netball teams taking part. The teams worked hard to gel together as a new group during the tournament rounds.
Each team handled themselves well during the various challenges of the tournament.
Day 1 of CAIMS was a very cold and windy day down at Hagley courts! The A and B team were placed in different Pool rounds and the A team won all of their games, some by big margins! The B team were unable to get any wins although some games were very close.
Day 2 of CAIMS was sunny and cold but much more pleasant to be outside! The A team won their first game ending up the top team in Pool B. Then a new draw after round robin games meant the A team were playing the top teams of the tournament. They had a strong win against Villa Maria. Next were two close finals games against Heaton then Cobham for third and fourth. These were unfortunately lost, but by close margins. Although disappointed by the losses the team played brilliantly throughout the tournament with some excellent attack and defence. Overall the A team came 4th in the top Pool. An awesome effort!
The B team lost their first game on day 2 and finished at the bottom of their pool. They then played in their new pool. They played some challenging teams and ended the day with a draw which was their best result of the tournament. They were positive, resilient and upbeat throughout!
The teams were lucky to have a large amount of whanau support on the sidelines during both days, to help cheer loudly, score and time. Massive thanks to those who helped out!
I’m so proud of the way the teams conducted themselves throughout the 2 days, being organised for each day, supporting each other and demonstrating ‘The South Way’ with our school values. A stellar effort!
Thanks to the student umpires Charlotte Osbourne and Hannah Van Nieuwkerk for offering their skills so the B team had umpires for each game. Thanks to the co-captains for their great organisation of the team warm ups, gear bags and support of the team’s spirit!
Thanks also to Shelley Eccleton, Rebecca Robinson and Jeremy Rutherford, who took time out of their busy schedules to support the B team at Hagley for the two day tournament.
