Wow what a week it’s been!
From competing in sports to dancing at the disco, performing for Pasifika and listening to bands we have all had a lot of fun making new friends, connections, and awesome memories,
As most of you know, on Monday evening Broadgreen arrived from their daunting five hour road trip, our host families and a few other students greeted Broadgreen with a Mihi Whakatau.
Then on the first full day of the exchange we kicked things off with CSKI’s Kapa Haka and Pasifika performances, we then went ten-pin bowling and what a blast that was.
There was a large variety of skill, and a lot of support even to those who weren’t from our school.
The following Wednesday morning Christchurch South did their full showcase including hip hop, jump jam, jazz bands, rock bands, and even a flash mob.
Right after our showcase we kickstarter our sports with a haka off.
During the full day of sport there was an astonishing amount of support demonstrated and a massive show of participation from both schools, so I’m sure everyone was exhausted.
On Thursday morning Broadgreen gave South a showcase performance we won’t forget, their waiata and haka were especially amazing. Then to wrap up sports, our touch, football, and sevens teams competed against each other which concluded our sports for the exchange. Christchurch South retained the sports trophy with a hard fought 2-1 win in the selected sports.
Thursday night held the disco, a blast from the past. Our last night of the exchange. There were heaps of cool costumes, and a lot of loud music and lots of people having fun.
On Friday morning we ended with the annual debate in front of the whole school, which Christchurch South managed to win.
The host families’ students farewelled the buses with an impromptu haka which seemed a fitting way to bring the exchange to an end.
It was another fantastic exchange where many new friendships were made.
