Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 3 saw the much-anticipated Dance Evenings at CSKI, where the Year 7 and 8 students of each pod came together to showcase the dances they had learned in P.E. These evenings are a proud tradition at our school, giving whānau a chance to see their children’s hard work and enjoy an evening filled with fun and dance.
This year, the students performed a vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary dances. From classic line dances like the CC Shuffle, The Virginia Reel, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and the Honky Tonk Stomp, to lively contemporary pieces like the Cha Cha Slide, Backstreet’s Back, and Follow the Leader, every performance was met with enthusiastic applause.
The standout moments of each evening were the whānau dances, where students invited their families onto the dance floor to join in. Each pod had its own special way of organising this segment, with many whānau commenting on how much they loved learning the CC Shuffle, Cha Cha Slide, and YMCA. “It was so much fun getting to dance with my son. The kids were amazing teachers!” said one parent, clearly delighted with the experience.
Mr. Williams, Sheppard 2 kaiako and former CSKI student, reflected on the significance of the event: “I remember dancing the Virginia Reel in the hall with my friends. We had a great time, just like the Year 7s and 8s have had this week. I even learned how to waltz here! It’s wonderful to now be in a position to give back and help continue this tradition.”
The Dance Evenings are a testament to the spirit of our community at CSKI, with students, whānau, and teachers coming together to celebrate our school and the joy of dance!
