During our school assembly on the 21st of October, the school commemorated Mr Hastings’s 20th year as our Principal. The school wanted to recognise the dedication and leadership that he has shown over this time at CSKI. Although this was a complete surprise for Mr Hastings, there were a few clues in our assembly. Each assembly slide included a caricature of Mr Hastings doing various things. This kept him guessing throughout our assembly. Finally, he realised what was happening when Mrs Marryatt gave a speech about his time at CSKI.

Following this, Mr Hastings was presented with a huge bunch of flowers and a very special gift – a pounamu. This pounamu has the shape of a toki, signifying strength, courage and determination, everyone felt that this was very fitting for him. Following the ceremony, the whole school did the school haka for Mr Hastings, in honour of him and his service at CSKI. He was very surprised and grateful for this. We are all sure that it is something that he will remember as a very significant time in his career.
