We are absolutely thrilled to share the wonderful experience had by members of Te ropu Harikoa (our Kapa Haka Group) at the recent Kahukura cultural event, Maunga Teitei 2025.
On Wednesday, 19th November, our talented students attended this vibrant celebration of Māori and Pasifika Culture, which brings together schools within our Kahukura cluster, including West Spreydon, Thorrington, Somerfield, and Sacred Heart.
Tūmeke! A Day to Remember
It was truly fantastic to see such a strong presence of whānau (families) there to support the performers. The atmosphere was electric, celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of our community.
We were especially grateful that the weather played its part this year! After the cancellation of the 2024 event due to poor weather, the stunning sunshine for Maunga Teitei 2025 made the day even more enjoyable and allowed the performances to shine brightly.
High Quality Performance
Te rōpū Harikoa represented Christchurch South Karamata with pride and delivered a truly high-quality performance. Their dedication and hard work were evident in every action, waiata, and haka.
A huge shout-out and special acknowledgement must go to our incredible Kapa Haka tutor, Steve Reid, for his continuous mahi and support. The commitment he shows to guiding and inspiring our group is invaluable, resulting in such polished and powerful performances.
