Bike Methven hosted the South Island Secondary School MTB Champs from March 25th to March 28th. There were three mountain biking disciplines for our riders to enter over those four days: cross country (XC), downhill and enduro. Twenty riders from our school ventured South to tackle the Mount Hutt courses and battle with the muddy elements.

In the XC event, Charlie rode incredibly well to finish on the U13 Boys podium, clenching a bronze. Isla carved her name into the tracks, delivering another outstanding ride in 2026 to take the U14 Girls title. Gabe was our fastest U14 Boys rider finishing in 14th place.

Our Downhill crew often make great use of the Christchurch Adventure Park and bring great flow to their riding. Ethan was our best placed flier in the U13 Boys, finishing 4th and just 0.4 seconds out of the medals.  Jack, Luka and Emerson were also amongst the top 10 riders in this category, too.

In the Enduro discipline, Charlie was our fastest rider, showing his all-round capability with a 14th place.

Getting the children out to these races required the contribution of parents and caregivers. They are greatly appreciated for making this opportunity possible for our young people. In a few years, higher honours might come the way of our students due to the gateway of experiences they passed through while here at CSKI!
