What an incredible term it has been for Te rōpū Harikoa at Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate! Our students have shown exceptional dedication and commitment to kapa haka, navigating a challenging schedule with enthusiasm and grace.
This term was jam-packed, starting with the inspiring performance at Maunga Teitei, followed immediately by the excitement of the Tūhono festival, and then straight into three nights of amazing performances for our school Showcase. Our students truly gave it their all!
On Wednesday, December 10th, we held our special whānau celebration and wrap-up session. It was a fantastic afternoon of connection and reflection. Matua Steve (our Kapa Haka Tutor) kicked off the fun, getting all of our students and whānau singing together. We then revisited our beautiful class poi waiata, Rona and the Moon. The highlight was a fun, yet challenging, coordination test: singing Te Aroha while playing an intricate hand-clapping game! It was a brilliant test of focus and rhythm for both our students and their whānau.
As the year draws to a close, we want to give a massive mihi (acknowledgement) for the incredible mahi (work) our students have done.
We began the year 150-strong, and that commitment remained steady throughout the entire year. A special pōwhiri (farewell and acknowledgement) to our Year 8s. You have truly risen to the challenge this year, demonstrating wonderful leadership and passion. We wish you all the very best on your continued journey in te ao Māori (the Māori world).
