What a fantastic kick-off to the year we’ve had in the Performing Arts department! The spaces of CSKI are already buzzing with music, rhythm, and incredible energy. Whether they are singing, playing, or dancing, our students have jumped into their creative passions with two feet.
Here is a quick look at the tremendous start our groups have had this term!
🎻 Orchestras: From Sea Shanties to the Savanna
Our CSKI Orchestra is well under way and making a spectacular sound! Under the wonderful guidance of Mr. Bartley, the group is already tackling an incredibly fun and diverse repertoire. So far, they are learning the classic Sesame Street theme, bringing the energy with Eye of the Tiger, sailing through the Wellerman sea shanty, and feeling the rhythm of a fantastic Lion King Medley.
For our newer musicians, the Training Orchestra is slowly and steadily forming! We are so proud of the students stepping up to play together for the first time. This group will continue to grow, practice, and develop next term, so watch this space!
💃 Karamata Kanikani: Stepping Up the Beat
Our dance crew, Karamata Kanikani, is already bringing the heat! The crew has had two absolutely awesome sessions with Caleb White, our amazing dance tutor from Ace. The enthusiasm in the room is contagious, and we can’t wait to see the routines these talented dancers put together this year.
🎷 CSKI Jazz Band: A Strong Start
The CSKI Jazz Band has started the year incredibly strong! We are thrilled to welcome our new leader, Ben Zilber, who joins us from Cashmere High School. Ben is already bringing fresh ideas and great grooves to the band room, and the students are loving the new dynamic.
🎤 Voices and Culture: A Phenomenal Turnout
We have been absolutely blown away by the massive turnout for our Choir, Kapa Haka, and Pasifika groups! It is so heartwarming to see so many students eager to share their voices and celebrate their cultures. All three groups have had a phenomenal start and are already hard at work learning exciting new material for the coming year.

A massive thank you to our wonderful music tutors who have helped us get itinerant lessons off to such a smooth and successful start.
To all of our students who are learning a new instrument this year: keep going! We know that those first few weeks of squeaks, squawks, and sore fingers can be tricky, but every single note brings you one step closer to mastering your instrument. We are so proud of your bravery and dedication. Keep up the fantastic practice!
