Our korfball season officially kicked off on Monday 12th April as our Korfball squad took part in the first tournament of the year held at Hagley park netball courts. With 4 teams taking part, being the defending champions, and having a large contingent of year 7 and 8 students who had never played korball before, it was always going to be a huge day for South!
Our year 7 and 8 'newbies' took to korfball like a duck takes to water. They all showed beautiful teamwork and were able to showcase their skills and talent. No doubt, these players will be so much richer for the experience.
All South teams played exceptionally well during pool play and we found all of our teams in the playoffs - unfortunately the way the draw worked, we had two South vs South playoff games! Our A team narrowly defeated our B team 6-4, whilst our Year 7 Development team just edged out a victory over the D team 3-1.
In the final, our A team took on a very strong and big Middelton Grange team. In what was an absolute nailbiter of a match, Josh Breitmeyer scored two quick goals in succession late in the game to pull us ahead. One more goal late in the piece ensured CSKI a 3-0 win and resulted in our 8th successive tournament in a row!
Congratulations to all players involved and a massive thank you to all our parent volunteers who helped with transport and stayed to cheer on our students. Finally, well done to Josh for being named in the team of the tournament.
