The CSKI Jazz Band performed at the Christchurch Big Band Festival Junior Jazz Jam this month. The first band to perform out of seven jazz bands from around Christchurch, they really stepped up to the challenge. The judge commented that the ‘rhythm section was tight and really groovy with a solid feel throughout. The horn section played well together, especially the dynamics & phrasing. Very cool to hear an improvised solo (Anna)’. The judge followed up the comments by awarding CSKI a gold award, which is a testament to the mahi the band have put in at rehearsals throughout the year. You can hear the band perform at the Kahukura Celebration coming up on the 16th of November.
