We congratulate Chloe Riches on successfully winning a teaching position at Te Rōhutu Whio. She will be using her knowledge of te ao Māori and her fluency in te reo Māori as she starts her new position teaching in the Reorua (Bi-lingual) part of the school.

Chloe finishes at Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate at the end of Term 3 to enable her to start her new teaching position at the beginning of Term 4.

Chloe started teaching at our school at the beginning of the 2013 academic year. She quickly demonstrated her teaching qualities and during her time at Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate has taken on middle leadership roles as a team leader and provided leadership and support for mātauranga Māori including te reo and tikanga Māori. Staff have benefited significantly from her expertise and support and have grown their own capacities as a result. Chloe is respected by students and whānau for her leadership in engaging with them in constructive and respectful ways.

During 2015 she completed a Te Ara Reo Māori course and in 2017 she completed her second diploma in Te Reo Māori. In 2018 the Board supported her successful application for a Māori Medium Education Study Award, which enabled her to study full time to complete her Masters degree, Hōaka Pounamu.

We wish her all the very best as she starts out on this new venture in her teaching career.

Chloe has been, and will no doubt continue to be, a terrific example of someone who has a passion for learning.

Mai i te Kōpae ki te Urupa, tātou ako tonu ai.
From the cradle to the grave we are forever learning.
