On Monday and Tuesday of Week 5, the boys A, B & C football teams and the girls football team participated in the South Island CAIMS tournament at Hagley park.

For the boys, there were a total of 12 teams divided into 2 pools of 6. After group play here is how they had performed.

A Team : P5 W4 D1 L0 – 1st in Pool B
B Team: P5 W5 D0 L0 – 1st Pool A
C Team: P5 W3 D0 L2 – 3rd Pool B

All three teams progressed through to the quarter finals where the A team won 6-0 against Heaton B, the B team won 2-0 against Kirkwood A and the C team lost 4-0 against Chisnallwood A. What a fantastic effort to have all 3 teams in the top 8 with the A and B teams making the semi finals.

In the semi finals the A team lost 2-0 to a good Heaton A side but the B team caused a major upset and won 3-1 on penalties against Chisnallwood A, after the score was tied 0-0 at full time.

After that disappointment of their loss the A team regrouped and played Chisnallwood A in the 3rd and 4th playoff of which they won comfortably 2-0.

In the final the B team played some fantastic football but they ended up losing a tight fought game 1-0 to Heaton A.

Final Placings:
B Team: 2nd

A Team 3rd

C Team 8th For the girls, there were 6 teams. After group play here is how they had performed:P5 W2 L3 We came up against Heaton in our semi-final. It was a tough battle with the score 0-0 at half time but Heaton managed to score 2 goals in the second half. Therefore we went into our final game against Rangi Ruru to see who could steal 3rd place on the table. Being our 7th game of the tournament, the fatigue was starting to show but the girls dug deep; making great runs up the pitch and holding a strong defensive line. With the game tied at full time, we went into extra time, where Rangi Ruru were able to pull ahead with a goal to win the game. Well done to all the players and a big thank you to the parents that came down and helped support the running of the tournament. It was much appreciated!
