Last Wednesday, June 21st, CSKI proudly sent a team of 31 students to participate in the Primary and CAIMS Canterbury Cross Country Championship held at Ngā Puna Wai. The weather in the days leading up to the event had been characterised by cool winds and rain, setting the stage for a true cross country race. On the day itself, the conditions were overcast and cold, further adding to the authentic cross country experience.

The course itself encompassed a diverse terrain, consisting of grassland, gravel paths, and even sheep paddocks. The grand finale took place on the all-weather athletics track, providing a thrilling conclusion to the race. Our dedicated runners competed against impressive fields of over 150 participants, covering a challenging distance of 3 kilometres.

We are proud to highlight some notable achievements from our team. In the Year 7 Girls category, Hannah secured an impressive 23rd place, showcasing her determination and skill. In the Year 7 Open division, Darby achieved an excellent 9th position, closely followed by Ethan in 10th place. Guy exhibited his talent by securing 20th place, while Pedro demonstrated his perseverance and finished a strong  29th place.

The Year 8 Girls category saw Eliza put forth a determined performance, securing the 25th position in a competitive field. In the Year 8 Open division, Levi displayed his outstanding abilities and secured an excellent 8th place. Lucas exhibited his skill and determination, finishing closely behind in 10th place. Eli and Daichi both showcased their tenacity by securing 26th place and 30th place respectively.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the family members, friends, and whanau who provided their support to our runners throughout the event. Your presence and encouragement undoubtedly played a significant role in the success of our team.
