Time2Talk - Devices and Pornography

As you maybe already be aware, pornography is unregulated in New Zealand and can be accessed easily from any device a young person is using. In some cases it may appear even if unwanted. Current New Zealand statistics show that 86% of boys and 73% of girls have been exposed to pornography. The large majority of this exposure occurs online and at younger ages.  To support whānau/parents to understand and how to talk to their children about pornography, an evening education session has been organised for Wednesday 9 June at 7.00 p.m. This session will run from 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. and will be facilitated by Brett Harvey from www.time2talk.nz. This session will be held in the Christchurch South Karamata Intermediate Hall (204 Selwyn Street) and can be attended by any whānau/parents from the Kahukura Cluster. Topics covered in this session will include:
  • Pornography today and New Zealand Statistics
  • The effects of pornography on our children and whānau
  • Common misconceptions around pornography
  • Why sooner is safer - benefits of being first to talk with our children
  • Managing devices - parenting in a digital world
  • Tips to get comfortable with talking to our children about pornography
  • In home filtering systems - protecting our children online
  • Resources for you to take home and use immediately

There will be no charge for this session. To register your place at this event please click on the following link: https://forms.gle/nS9qps7weXQ6dBUX9
