Following the Term Two tournament, we went into our third tournament with even more experience than ever. You could easily tell that all the students were keen to go one better that last time and bring home the trophy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.
In pool play, the A team were the dominant team again, winning all of their games by rather large score margins and not conceding a single goal. The A team have improved considerably throughout the year and are considered to be one of “strongest teams seen in the last 4-5 years”.
The tournament team were mostly all new to Korfball this year and for many of them it was their first tournament. After a couple of close pool games, they found themselves in the bottom half playoffs. The tournament team began their playoffs with a massive victory. Everything seemed to click, and this team of rookies looked very much like experienced campaigners. Josh Sworn introduced himself to the Korfball scene by nabbing 6 goals in one game. Our tournament team finished with a very impressive 5th place.
The A team had yet another playoff nail biter. However, it was another case of so close, yet so far for the team, going down to eventual champions Halswell. On a positive note, the A team redeemed themselves in their 3rd and 4th playoff by winning convincingly to take home the bronze.
A huge congratulations to all students who attended the term three tournament and also to Blake Rosanowski and Sophie Hammond-Parrish who were named by Korfball Canterbury in the team of the tournament.
