On April 4th 60 South riders journeyed out to McLean’s Island to represent CSIS at the Huxster MTB relay. This year the race had a strict limit of 600 riders. Our school was by far the biggest contingent and our hunger to Aim High was on show for all.

Conditions were outstanding, with a fine yet slightly cloudy 24 degrees and a cool Easterly blowing. The track was in great shape, rolling fast with the odd hot line cut in to the course for speed demons to attack their way ahead of slower riders.

Many of our Year 8s were returning riders to this race and there was a strong desire to improve on previous placings. There were five race categories to vye for: Year 7/ 8 Boys Team, Year 7/ 8 Girls team, Year 7/ 8 Mixed Team, Year 7/ 8 Boys Individual and Year 7/ 8 Girl’s Individual. Suffice to say, CSIS absolutely dominated the field this year. Our students won 4 of the titles up for grabs which had the race organiser asking: “What are they being fed!?”

A massive thank you must go out to all parents who supported the teams on race day with transport, food and encouragement. Our transponder swapping was of extremely high calibre! Without the help of our South community, we would not have been able to display our “wheel” strength amongst Canterbury schools.

Here is a comprehensive list of our top placing students:

Boys Individual:

1st place: Hamish Sherratt

2nd place: Luke Wayman

Mixed Team:

1st place: Maria Laurie (also fastest lap out of the whole field) and George Massie

Girls Team
