Our 46th annual Broadgreen exchange took place in week 4 of this term. Generally it is held in the final week of term 3, however due to Covid-19 implications, it was moved to week 4 of term 4.
This exchange with Broadgreen intermediate involved 97 Broadgreen students being billeted to various whānau homes for all of week 4. Both South host students and Broadgreen travelling students were treated to an incredible, action packed week filled with sporting and cultural events.
On Tuesday morning, we welcomed Broadgreen with a powerful and spine tingling mihi whakatau. After our incredible kapa haka group performed, all students were able to interact with each other and spin a few yarns whilst enjoying shared kai. This was followed by some 10 pin bowling and an 'experience CSKI' programme. The Tuesday was concluded with an intense Team Maths competition.
Wednesday morning saw the beginning of the two showcase concerts that are involved in every exchange. South was first up and we were able to enrich our audience with a variety of incredible acts, ranging from choir to Pasifika - with many more acts in between! Our competitive and social sports events also kicked off and Wednesday. It was absolutely wonderful to watch so many students involved in a wide range of sport.
Thursday bought along yet another day of beautiful weather. Broadgreen put on an incredible show for their concert. They were certainly able to showcase some of the wonderful talent that Broadgreen has to offer to their students. The sports continued for the remainder of the day before Broadgreen students headed out to enjoy some ice skating for the afternoon. A fireworks themed disco was certainly an enjoyable way to close out the day. Some of the dance moves on display were definitely entertaining!
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. After a rigorous debate regarding payment of managed isolation facilities, it was time to say farewell to Broadgreen staff and students. Thank you to everyone involved in the week who ensured all students were treated to a week full of memory making moments.
Congratulations to the Broadgreen team who won the debating trophy and managed to secure the sports trophy for the first time. The South mathematicians took the team math competition.
