Marcus is a super talented MTB rider and has a knack for clinching the highest place on a podium. He had the opportunity to compete with 260 other children at the South Island Secondary Schools Champs in the last week of the holidays. On the back of his impressive results in the Canterbury, South Canterbury and other race events this year, undoubtedly Marcus would have been confident in his skill set, endurance and speed.
In Dunedin, with demanding, muddy and trying conditions to test the nerve of his competitors, Marcus had himself a great time defying the laws of gravity. Heavy showers, and a thunderstorm on the final Saturday of the holidays, changed the courses into slick and gnarly questions of personal safety and sanity.
So how did he go? Marcus "the MACHINE" achieved his goal of winning the overall U14 South Island title for 2017 by placing in all 3 disciplines:
1st in Downhill
1st in Super D
2nd in Cross Country.
It was a great event and experience for Marcus and has him thinking about goals for the coming season. Full credit is also due to his support crew: thanks very much to his dad, Jason, for the encouragement, guidance, support and the follow up messages to let us know at South how this superstar has been tracking!!
