This year's Otago Daily Times Current Events Quiz saw 8 teams from South competing against 60 other Year 7 and 8 teams for the honour of being this year's current events champions. Each team's knowledge of national and international geography and current events was tested over 10 rounds intended to challenge even the most confident teams.
After the first five rounds, South teams were well placed and hopes were high as the final rounds began. One of the final round was the notorious "Who am I?" and "What am I?" questions where teams were only given the vaguest of clues in order to guess who or what the answer was. Despite this, a number of teams still guessed that Peter Burling was the answer to the clue, 'He was born in Tauranga in 1991' and that a rocket was the answer to, 'what would you expect to see in the skies above the East Cape?'
After what was a very competitive evening that had to be decided by a tie breaker, South teams were very well placed, with our highest achieving teams only 4 and 7 points behind the winning team.
