In the school Easter holidays, a number of students from South decided to rise to the challenge of creating something from waste that would have otherwise been thrown away. You could enter the Canterbury school-wide Upcycle, Rethink - reinvent - reuse competition as an individual or as a team. I decided to enter as an individual because I knew it would push me to do my best. I created a tiered planter made from old jib buckets, a broken tent pole and a piece of wood I found in dad’s garage. All of our entries were transported to an expo in a hall in Kaiapoi. The general public was invited to vote for their favourite. It was fun to see the work from our competitors. Our display looked impressive and had the most diverse range of entries. We really did upcycle, rethink - reinvent and reuse!  We were all very proud when we heard that South had won the overall school's prize of $500.
