After a week of postponement dates and a change of venue, the Korfball Canterbury Year 7 & 8 Tournament was held at Cowles Stadium on Monday 10th April. Twenty South Students participated in two teams, against 7 other teams. The students had been training extremely hard, every Thursday morning at 7.45am since Week 1.
The B team comprised of mostly Year 7 students, for whom this was their first taste of a Korfball competition. The played extremely well, only losing to eventual finalists South A and Queenspark.
The A team went through pool play undefeated, with some outstanding performances including an 11-nil win in their first game! They came up against a very tall and strong Queenspark in the final, and until the final few minutes the score was sitting at 1 all, with both teams playing some very tough defence. A running shot to Jesse towards the end of the game proved the deciding factor in the end.
From the day a Tournament team of 8 (4 boys and 4 girls) were selected, and South managed to get 4 players identified in this groups. A massive congratulations to Jesse, Tyler, Sammy and Esther for being selected by the selectors.
There is a tournament each term, so if you have missed out this time there are plenty more opportunities! Come along to trainings on Thursday mornings and be part of the action!
A huge thank you must go to our wonderful group of parents and supporters who were there the whole day cheering us on!
