Congratulations to the nine students that took part in the Canterbury Schools Orienteering competition held on the weekend of the 14/15 September; Kyla R3, Jennifer H1, Rebecca H4, James S3, Jamie N1, Max N4, Callum S3, Kiera S4, and John N2.
Saturdays event was a super fast sprint event held at Old Avonside Girls school, where a maze-like map makes it difficult for the brain to keep up with the legs. Sundays event was the long distance competition held at Spencer Park Forest testing student’s stamina in addition to their navigation. For four members of the team it was their first time competing in this type of event, despite this all students managed the navigational challenges in the forest really well. South students showed their perseverance and resilience to complete the courses, giving us enough points over the two day competition to place us second in the Year 7/8 competition (combined boys and girls) just behind Mt Pleasant School. A great result.
