The Term 3 Mixx Korfball Tournament was held on Monday, 11th September. Expectations were high for our four teams, but there were a few nerves as the tournament welcomed the return of previous-winner Heaton and up-comer Rangiora Borough, who had recently won both the Selwyn Cup and the Waimakariri Cup.

Competition was tough in the pool play. All teams had improved tremendously since the last tournament and only our A Team emerged unscathed. Teams such as Kirkwood, Heaton 1, St Martins 1, and Rangiora Borough proved to be formidable opponents.

In the quarter-finals for places 1-8, the A Team faced our B Team and won. Meanwhile, the C Team triumphed over our D Team in a quarter-final match for places 9-16.

Advancing to the semi-finals, the A Team faced former finalist St Martins 1 and won with a score of 5-2. The final showdown was against Rangiora Borough, the toughest match of the day. lthough there were tense moments, our A Team emerged victorious with a final score of 4-2, securing the Term 3 Mixx Christchurch Korfball Cup.

This win marked the A Team’s third tournament victory this year. (Our B Team placed 6th, the C Team 10th, and the D Team 13th.)

Overall, it was a remarkable day with outstanding results. Four of our top players were also recognized for their exceptional play and earned spots on the Mixx Tournament Team that will take part in a special upcoming Mixx Korfball event. Congratulations to Sulola Asanso, Felix Martin, Lily Watson, and Cooper Walklin.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to the parents for their invaluable support, transportation assistance, and coaching. Your contributions played a significant role in our success.
